DPW Rolls Out Resident Advisory Council

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Jason W. Mitchell is excited to announce the roll out of DPW’s first-ever Resident Advisory Council. Members of the new Resident Advisory Council (RAC) will provide the Department with community-based input and guidance on key DPW operations.

In addition to providing input and ideas regarding solid waste, water, and wastewater policies and services, the Advisory Council will collaborate with DPW leadership on solutions to long-standing issues involving waste and blight.

“The creation of a Resident Advisory Council will help DPW deepen its understanding of what’s needed to better serve Baltimore City residents and DPW’s water customers throughout the region,” said Director Mitchell. “This platform will position DPW to readily develop best practices to address issues facing the City’s residents and businesses.”

Membership

The RAC will be comprised of approximately 14 Baltimore City residents, representing each Council District and six representatives from DPW and other agencies with a cross section of community-based interests. This will include neighborhood associations, marginalized populations, businesses, faith-based and educational institutions.

Director Mitchell will chair the RAC and will be supported by Division Chiefs from DPW’s Bureau of Solid Waste and Bureau of Water and Wastewater. In addition, individual representatives and or organizations from various City Council Districts will be invited to serve as Ad Hoc Advisory Members at the request of the RAC.

Join Us!

DPW is currently accepting applications from Baltimore City residents who want to serve on the Council. Director Mitchell will convene a committee to review applications for acceptance.  We are seeking residents who are passionate about Baltimore and community service.  RAC members must be:

  • A resident of Baltimore City
  • 16 years of age or older
  • Registered to vote
  • Passionate about community service

Members of the RAC will be required to:

  • Attend a monthly meeting (online or in-person when COVD-19 mandates allow)
  • Serve two-year terms
  • Contribute to the development of DPW outreach programs
  • Register and engage in the Volunteer Network
  • Serve as RAC ambassadors by advocating for the respective communities and promoting cleanup efforts.

The deadline to apply to serve on the DPW Resident Advisory Council is Sunday, May 15, 2022. The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW)  has announced the release of its Revised Emergency Response Plan (ERP), a reference tool to be used by City personnel during a sanitary sewer overflow or reported building backup emergency. The Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree (MCD) requires DPW to submit a revised Emergency Response Plan to protect the public health and welfare in the event of an unpermitted release, spill, or discharge of pollutants from the sewer collection system or in the event of a reported building backup.

Register Now for the Mayor's Fall Cleanup, October 26

Mayor Brandon M. Scott, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW), and the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs have announced the upcoming Mayor's Annual Fall Clean-up and Day of Service. Residents, volunteer groups, and community associations are encouraged to register now to participate in the city-wide effort to beautify neighborhoods. The event will run on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mattress and Box Spring Recycling Now Available at Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center



Looking to get rid of an old mattress? Baltimore City residents can now drop off mattresses and box springs for recycling at the Baltimore City Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center. In the coming months, DPW will expand this mattress recycling service to other Residential Drop-Off Centers across the city.
