Acting Director Mitchell Names Yvonne Moore-Jackson Acting Head of Bureau of Solid Waste

Today, Acting Director Jason W. Mitchell appointed Yvonne Moore-Jackson as the Acting Head for the Bureau of Solid Waste in the Department of Public Works (DPW). Prior to this appointment, Ms. Moore-Jackson served as the Chief of Operations for the Bureau of Solid Waste.

“While I have not been with the Department long, I have seen Yvonne’s leadership and devotion to the residents of our great city firsthand,” said Acting Director Jason W. Mitchell. “I have full confidence that the Bureau is in capable hands as we move into this new chapter at the Department of Public Works.”

Yvonne Moore-Jackson was born and raised in Baltimore City and is a graduate of the historic Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. After high school, she stayed in Baltimore and matriculated to the Notre Dame of Maryland University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Business. Ms. Moore-Jackson began working for the City of Baltimore in 1997 as a Housing Inspector for the Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD). She worked her way up to the position of Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Code Enforcement at DHCD. In 2013, she joined DPW as the Chief of the Customer Support & Services Division of the Bureau of Water & Wastewater and in 2016 she moved to the Bureau of Solid Waste as the Chief of Property Management. Ms. Moore-Jackson held that position until being named Chief of Operations for the Bureau of Solid Waste in 2019.

“I am honored to be given this opportunity to lead the Bureau I have come to love and whose amazing employees share the same passion for public service,” said Yvonne Moore-Jackson, Acting Bureau Head of Solid Waste. “Thank you to Mayor Scott, City Administrator Shorter, and Acting Director Mitchell for the faith you have placed in me to lead this critical division of city services at this pivotal time. I also want to thank former Bureau Head John Chalmers for his years of leadership and mentorship. I believe we have an opportunity to make a real difference in our city through our work and I am committed to doing our part to create a more beautiful Baltimore.”

DPW congratulates former Bureau Head John Chalmers and wishes him an extremely happy and restful retirement after his 33 years of honorable service to the Bureau, the Department, the City of Baltimore, and its residents. DPW will greatly miss Mr. Chalmers but is thankful for his many years of service and his dedication to not only the job but to his fellow DPW employees.

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW)  has announced the release of its Revised Emergency Response Plan (ERP), a reference tool to be used by City personnel during a sanitary sewer overflow or reported building backup emergency. The Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree (MCD) requires DPW to submit a revised Emergency Response Plan to protect the public health and welfare in the event of an unpermitted release, spill, or discharge of pollutants from the sewer collection system or in the event of a reported building backup.

Register Now for the Mayor's Fall Cleanup, October 26

Mayor Brandon M. Scott, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW), and the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs have announced the upcoming Mayor's Annual Fall Clean-up and Day of Service. Residents, volunteer groups, and community associations are encouraged to register now to participate in the city-wide effort to beautify neighborhoods. The event will run on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mattress and Box Spring Recycling Now Available at Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center



Looking to get rid of an old mattress? Baltimore City residents can now drop off mattresses and box springs for recycling at the Baltimore City Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center. In the coming months, DPW will expand this mattress recycling service to other Residential Drop-Off Centers across the city.
