DPW Offers Residents A Fall Cleaning and Greening Superfecta

Baltimore City Department of Public Works Acting Director Matthew W. Garbark today announced that DPW will offer four popular events all on one day.  Residents will be able to participate in Recycling Drop-Off, Paper Shredding, and a Mini GROW Center Pop-Up from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3 at 2801 St. Lo Drive in Clifton Park.  The Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off event is Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2 and 3 at the Northwest Citizens' Convenience Center, located at 2840 Sisson Street from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

About the Events 

Recycling Drop-Off:  This is an additional single stream recycling-drop off opportunity for residents.  This is for recycling only, no trash.  Plastic bags must be emptied, but are not acceptable for recycling.  Recyclable items include paper, plastic food and beverage jars, jugs and prescription bottles, aluminum cans, and glass bottles and jars.  A full list of materials that are acceptable/unacceptable can be found on the Department of Public Works website. 

Paper Shredding:  This allows residents to safely dispose of sensitive paper documents quickly, easily and securely. Cancelled checks, medical records, credit card information, utility bills, old tax returns and pay stubs are among the many items that can be destroyed by shredding. Once shredded, the documents will be taken directly to a recycling facility. Residents can bring up to two 32-gallon bags of documents to be shredded. Bags with items other than paper will not be accepted.

Mini GROW Center: This Spring’s GROW Center pop-ups were cancelled due to the pandemic.  This Mini GROW Center event will feature free trees and mulch (courtesy of TreeBaltimore).  Information and handouts will be provided to help with cleaning and greening activities at your home and in your community.  Trees and mulch are available on a first come basis. If possible, please bring your own container or bag for mulch.

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off: The Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off will be held on two days, Friday and Saturday, October 2-3. Household hazardous waste includes materials such as household cleaning products, bleach, ammonia, batteries, solvents, oil-based paint, etc. Latex paint is not considered hazardous and should be dried out and disposed of with your regular trash, or donated. A full list of materials that are acceptable/unacceptable can be found on the Department of Public Works website.

DPW will be practicing COVID-19 protocols for your safety; all participants must wear a mask at all four events and remain in your vehicles until instructed otherwise.  

Note: These activities will be held rain or shine. Recycling bins will not be sold at these events.

Register Now for the Mayor's Fall Cleanup, October 26

Mayor Brandon M. Scott, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW), and the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs have announced the upcoming Mayor's Annual Fall Clean-up and Day of Service. Residents, volunteer groups, and community associations are encouraged to register now to participate in the city-wide effort to beautify neighborhoods. The event will run on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mattress and Box Spring Recycling Now Available at Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center



Looking to get rid of an old mattress? Baltimore City residents can now drop off mattresses and box springs for recycling at the Baltimore City Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center. In the coming months, DPW will expand this mattress recycling service to other Residential Drop-Off Centers across the city.
