Keep Storm Drains Clear, Check Sump Pumps
Call 311 to Report Wet-Weather Related Sewage Backups 

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Acting Director Matthew W. Garbark asks residents to prepare and stay alert for the impact of today’s heavy rains and potential flooding associated with Tropical Storm Isaias.

The storm is bringing heavy rain, flooding, wind damage, and tidal surges. Citizens are advised to follow the storm's progress in the local media. They are also advised to be mindful that power outages can lead to water service interruptions. Always have bottled water on hand.

Trash and Recycling Collections cancelled for Aug. 4

Trash and recycling collections have been cancelled for Tuesday, August 4, due to expected high winds and heavy rain from Tropical Storm Isaias. The make-up day for this cancellation will be Saturday, August 8.

Preparing for the Storm

Rising water along streams and in low-lying areas Can cause floods. Blocked storm drains may increase the potential for flooding at these locations. Residents may consider moving valuables from a lower level to a higher floor.

Everyone is urged to make sure that their sump pumps are operational.  Report  sewage backups and storm water  flooding to 311.

Following the storm, DPW’s Bureau of Solid Waste crews will help to clear storm-related debris from City streets and other public rights-of-way.

Drivers are cautioned to not drive through standing water.

Clear Storm Drains City crews have cleared storm drains before the rains arrive. Please clear storm drain grates of debris near your property to prevent flooding. Sweeping leaves and trash from sidewalks, alleys and gutters will keep this material out of the drains. Please do not park on top of storm inlets.

Register Now for the Mayor's Fall Cleanup, October 26

Mayor Brandon M. Scott, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW), and the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs have announced the upcoming Mayor's Annual Fall Clean-up and Day of Service. Residents, volunteer groups, and community associations are encouraged to register now to participate in the city-wide effort to beautify neighborhoods. The event will run on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mattress and Box Spring Recycling Now Available at Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center



Looking to get rid of an old mattress? Baltimore City residents can now drop off mattresses and box springs for recycling at the Baltimore City Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center. In the coming months, DPW will expand this mattress recycling service to other Residential Drop-Off Centers across the city.
