DPW to Launch Mitten Tree Campaign with Music-Filled Celebration

Kick-Off Ceremony: Friday, Dec. 7; Ceremony Starts at 11:30 a.m.

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold a holiday-themed, musical celebration to mark the start of the City’s 45th annual Mitten Tree Campaign on Friday, Dec. 7. This event will be held in the lobby of the Abel Wolman Municipal Building, 200 Holliday Street. The music starts at 11 a.m., and the  ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m.

During the annual Mitten Tree campaign, DPW joins with the City’s Departments of Transportation and General Services to collect donations of mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves for Baltimore City children in need. 

“The Mitten Tree Campaign is a special time for DPW and other City workers to come together  to provide necessities to children whose families may need some extra help this winter,” said DPW Director Rudolph S. Chow, P.E.  “I am asking area citizens and all City workers to donate to this year’s collection of mittens, scarves, hats, and gloves.”

Performing at the Dec. 7 kick-off ceremony will be the Dunbar High School Jazz Band and Abbottston Elementary School second graders and a special appearance by Santa Claus! The musical performances will start at 11 a.m. The Franklin Square Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club will also perform. The annual Mitten Tree toss will be the finale!

Citizens and City Employees are encouraged to leave donations of mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves in the collection bin in the Abel Wolman Municipal Building. Donations will be accepted through Thursday, December 19, and distributed by the Salvation Army’s Franklin Square Boys and Girls Club located at 215 N. Calhoun Street in West Baltimore.

Register Now for the Mayor's Fall Cleanup, October 26

Mayor Brandon M. Scott, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW), and the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs have announced the upcoming Mayor's Annual Fall Clean-up and Day of Service. Residents, volunteer groups, and community associations are encouraged to register now to participate in the city-wide effort to beautify neighborhoods. The event will run on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mattress and Box Spring Recycling Now Available at Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center



Looking to get rid of an old mattress? Baltimore City residents can now drop off mattresses and box springs for recycling at the Baltimore City Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center. In the coming months, DPW will expand this mattress recycling service to other Residential Drop-Off Centers across the city.
