Municipal Trash Can Delivery Under Way

BALTIMORE, MD – Municipal Trash Cans are now arriving at Baltimore City residences, beginning in several Northwest Baltimore neighborhoods and continuing through June. A distribution schedule is posted at the Municipal Trash Can link on the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) website, http://PublicWorks.BaltimoreCity.gov.

The green trash cans are being delivered to the front of properties that receive trash collection from DPW. Though care was taken to remove vacant properties from the delivery routes, some trash cans may end up in front of vacant buildings. Residents may call 311 if they notice that a new trash can has been delivered to a vacant property, and a crew from DPW’s Bureau of Solid Waste will remove the cans.

For weekly trash collections, residents will not need to change where or when they set out their cans. Rear collections will remain in the rear of households, and front collections will remain out front.

Included with each new Municipal Trash Can is an insert describing how to care for and use the can.

Once the Municipal Trash Can is delivered, citizens may take their old cans to be recycled at one of the City’s drop-off facilities, or use the old can as a recycling container. “Recycling Only” stickers are available to residents who want to convert their old trash cans to recycling bins. To request a sticker, please call the Office of Recycling, 410-396-4511.

Cans are assigned specifically to each address, remain the property of the City, and should not be altered or defaced with letters, names, stickers, numbers, or symbols. To identify the new cans, DPW recommends that the residents write down the serial number on the front of the new cans.
