DPW Returns to Normal Trash and Recycling Collection Schedules

BALTIMORE, MD – Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Rudy S. Chow, P.E., today announced that DPW will resume normal, scheduled collections of both trash and recycling beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 2.
 
Amid warm temperatures and continued snow clearing efforts, DPW’s Bureau of Solid Waste determined that a temporary halt to recycling pickups – which allowed crews to focus on trash removal – could be lifted early.
 
Collection points for residents with rear collections will resort to the rear. However, if the alley entrance points are blocked, residents should place trash and recycling in the front.  Please report any missed collections to 311.
 
Street sweeping will remain suspended until further notice.
 
Other operational changes:

  • Bulk collections will continue with front pickup throughout this week.
  • Graffiti removal will resume on a normal operating schedule.
  • Pitch-Ins will resume operations on Saturday, Feb. 6. To schedule or re-schedule cleanups, community leaders should call 311.
  • Rat abatement crews are returning to their normal schedules as conditions permit.
  • Because residential trash and recycling collection is returning to normal, the five DPW Citizen Convenience Centers at Bowleys Lane, Reedbird Avenue, Sisson Street, the Quarantine Road Landfill and the Northwest Transfer Station will also return to normal operating hours on Feb. 2.    

The normal hours at the convenience centers are 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.  Normal drop off hours for the Northwest Transfer Station on Reisterstown Road are 7 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Residents are reminded to keep trash in bags and secured inside durable trash cans with tight-fitting lids. 

Citizens are also asked to continue to work to locate and clear the storm drains in their streets and alleys. As temperatures rise above freezing and the snow melts during daylight hours, the stormwater system can only drain water away only if the inlets are kept open. Please also make sure hydrants are clear of snow and accessible.

Scott, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW), and the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs have announced the upcoming Mayor's Annual Fall Clean-up and Day of Service. Residents, volunteer groups, and community associations are encouraged to register now to participate in the city-wide effort to beautify neighborhoods. The event will run on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mattress and Box Spring Recycling Now Available at Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center



Looking to get rid of an old mattress? Baltimore City residents can now drop off mattresses and box springs for recycling at the Baltimore City Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center. In the coming months, DPW will expand this mattress recycling service to other Residential Drop-Off Centers across the city.
