DPW Suspends Trash Service Following Record Snow

BALTIMORE, MD – Trash and recycling collection is suspended for Tuesday, Jan. 26, and will be made up on Saturday, Jan. 30. The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is also suspending street sweeping and bulk trash collections, and closing its citizens’ convenience centers and landfill, on Tuesday.

The announcement comes as City workers and contractors continue efforts to clear roads following this weekend’s historic snowfall.

DPW Director Rudy S. Chow, P.E., said agency officials will evaluate throughout the day whether to suspend services beyond Tuesday.

With many residential streets and alleys still impassable, trucks cannot run their routes and drivers are being pulled into duty plowing and clearing the roads. In the interim, residents are reminded of the need to keep trash in bags and secured inside durable trash cans with tight-fitting lids.

Residents are also reminded of the importance of locating and clearing the storm drains in their streets and alleys. As temperatures rise above freezing and the snow melts during daylight hours, the stormwater system can only drain water away only if the inlets are kept open. Please also make sure hydrants are clear of snow and accessible.

Mattress and Box Spring Recycling Now Available at Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center



Looking to get rid of an old mattress? Baltimore City residents can now drop off mattresses and box springs for recycling at the Baltimore City Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center. In the coming months, DPW will expand this mattress recycling service to other Residential Drop-Off Centers across the city.
