City Holiday Reminder: Public Works Offices and Yards Closed New Year’s Day

BALTIMORE, MD – Department of Public Works Director Rudolph S. Chow, P.E., reminds Baltimore City residents that New Year’s Day is a City holiday. Department of Public Works’ offices and yards will be CLOSED on Friday, January 1, 2016.

  • Trash and recycling will NOT be collected on January 1; Saturday, January 2, 2016, will be the make-up collection day for trash and recycling in those areas that are regularly scheduled for collection on Friday.

  • NO bulk trash collections are scheduled.

  • Drop-off centers and yards will be CLOSED (all yards, including Quarantine Road Landfill, the Northwest Transfer Station and the Eastern, Western and Northwest Citizen Convenience Centers).

  • Mechanical street sweeping will NOT take place.

  • Parking meters will NOT be in effect.

  • NOTE: New Year’s Eve IS NOT a City holiday. DPW offices are open, and normal operations will take place on Thursday, December 31.

Recycling Reminder:

Please remember to recycle your holiday wrappings and beverage containers from your seasonal gatherings. Paper, cardboard, glass and plastic bottles and jars, aluminum and metal cans, and even Styrofoam (drop-off only), are among these recyclables. The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW)  has announced the release of its Revised Emergency Response Plan (ERP), a reference tool to be used by City personnel during a sanitary sewer overflow or reported building backup emergency. The Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree (MCD) requires DPW to submit a revised Emergency Response Plan to protect the public health and welfare in the event of an unpermitted release, spill, or discharge of pollutants from the sewer collection system or in the event of a reported building backup.

Register Now for the Mayor's Fall Cleanup, October 26

Mayor Brandon M. Scott, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW), and the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs have announced the upcoming Mayor's Annual Fall Clean-up and Day of Service. Residents, volunteer groups, and community associations are encouraged to register now to participate in the city-wide effort to beautify neighborhoods. The event will run on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mattress and Box Spring Recycling Now Available at Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center



Looking to get rid of an old mattress? Baltimore City residents can now drop off mattresses and box springs for recycling at the Baltimore City Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center. In the coming months, DPW will expand this mattress recycling service to other Residential Drop-Off Centers across the city.
