City Kicks Off 2014 Mitten Tree Campaign

BALTIMORE, MD (December, 4, 2014) — Kicking off the City’s 41st annual Mitten Tree Campaign, Department of Public Works Director Rudolph S. Chow, P.E., said today that donations of mittens, gloves, hats and scarves can help make this winter warmer for Baltimore City children in need.

To mark the start of the 2014 Mitten Tree Campaign, the DPW Director joined with the Mayor’s Office and directors from the departments of Transportation and General Services to decorate the towering Christmas tree in the lobby of the Abel Wolman Municipal Building with hats, gloves, and mittens that will be distributed to a Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club.

“I am asking area citizens and all City workers to donate to this year’s collection of mittens, scarves, hats, and gloves to help keep Baltimore children warm this winter,” said Director Chow.

The Mitten Tree Ceremony featured music by the Department of Public Works/Department of Transportation Employee Band & Singers, and continued with the Abbottston Elementary School choir and a special appearance by Santa Claus. The Franklin Square Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club also performed. A visit from Santa closed out the Mitten Tree Ceremony.

Citizens and City employees are encouraged to leave donations of mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves in the collection bin in the Abel Wolman Municipal Building. Donations will be accepted through Thursday, December 18, and distributed by the Salvation Army’s Franklin Square Boys and Girls Club located at 215 Calhoun Street in West Baltimore.

Register Now for the Mayor's Fall Cleanup, October 26

Mayor Brandon M. Scott, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW), and the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs have announced the upcoming Mayor's Annual Fall Clean-up and Day of Service. Residents, volunteer groups, and community associations are encouraged to register now to participate in the city-wide effort to beautify neighborhoods. The event will run on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mattress and Box Spring Recycling Now Available at Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center



Looking to get rid of an old mattress? Baltimore City residents can now drop off mattresses and box springs for recycling at the Baltimore City Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center. In the coming months, DPW will expand this mattress recycling service to other Residential Drop-Off Centers across the city.
