Annual Mitten Tree Giving Campaign Kicks-off December 6

BALTIMORE, MD (November 26, 2012) – The season of gifting is fast approaching and Public Works Director Alfred H. Foxx joins the spirit of giving when he leads the kick-off for the 39th Annual Mitten Tree collection on Thursday, December 6, 2012. Mittens, caps, gloves, and scarves collection is the focus of this annual City event. The fun begins at 11 a.m. with music by the Department of Public Works/ Department of Transportation Employee Band & Singers in the lobby of the Abel Wolman Municipal Building, 200 Holliday Street.
 
At 11:30 a.m., Director Foxx will be joined by the Department of General Services Acting Director Steve Sharkey; Department of Transportation Deputy Director Frank Murphy;  Anthony W. Batts, Commissioner, Baltimore Police Department; and Major Barry Corbitt, Baltimore Area Commander, Salvation Army for the official kick off of this year’s Mitten Tree campaign. Program performers: The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs, Franklin Square Unit; students from Cecil Elementary School; the Baltimore Police Department Adult Choir; and Santa will help toss the first mittens on the tree. Citizens and Baltimore City employees are encouraged to help decorate the tree with mittens, gloves, hats and scarves through Thursday, December 20, 2012.
 
Mittens, caps, gloves, and scarves that are collected are donated to those in need through the Salvation Army’s Franklin Square Boys and Girls Club located at 215 Calhoun Street in West Baltimore.

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW)  has announced the release of its Revised Emergency Response Plan (ERP), a reference tool to be used by City personnel during a sanitary sewer overflow or reported building backup emergency. The Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree (MCD) requires DPW to submit a revised Emergency Response Plan to protect the public health and welfare in the event of an unpermitted release, spill, or discharge of pollutants from the sewer collection system or in the event of a reported building backup.

Register Now for the Mayor's Fall Cleanup, October 26

Mayor Brandon M. Scott, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW), and the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs have announced the upcoming Mayor's Annual Fall Clean-up and Day of Service. Residents, volunteer groups, and community associations are encouraged to register now to participate in the city-wide effort to beautify neighborhoods. The event will run on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mattress and Box Spring Recycling Now Available at Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center



Looking to get rid of an old mattress? Baltimore City residents can now drop off mattresses and box springs for recycling at the Baltimore City Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center. In the coming months, DPW will expand this mattress recycling service to other Residential Drop-Off Centers across the city.
