An Important Step Forward in New Water Metering for Baltimore! City Seeks Qualified Bidders

Baltimore City, along with Baltimore County, has initiated procurement of an Automatic Meter Reading/Infrastructure (AMR/I) Program. This is a major step towards improving customer service through replacement of our existing water metering and customer billing systems.

This new system, when completed, will enable communication between citizens’ meters and a new billing system. This will mean that the manual process of opening meter covers and reading meters one-by-one will be eliminated, along with the possible transcription errors. Weather-related delays will no longer factor into providing our customers with timely bills.

With this system it will be possible to detect continuous water use which can be an indicator of a leak on a customer’s service, thus saving money for our citizens. This will also free-up the current meter readers to attend to customer service needs – a vital component of any world-class utility.

Baltimore City requires that bidders must be prequalified prior to bid opening. The City desires to prequalify AMR/I vendors and installation contractors for the upcoming project which will include the upgrade and replacement of water meters (to be furnished by the City) and the supply and installation of a new AMR/I system, including hardware and software utilizing a fixed area network with a mobile Automatic Meter Reader (AMR) configuration for certain service areas within the County. The required prequalification category for bidding this project will be G90089-Automatic Meter Reader (AMR) Manufacturer/Installer.

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW)  has announced the release of its Revised Emergency Response Plan (ERP), a reference tool to be used by City personnel during a sanitary sewer overflow or reported building backup emergency. The Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree (MCD) requires DPW to submit a revised Emergency Response Plan to protect the public health and welfare in the event of an unpermitted release, spill, or discharge of pollutants from the sewer collection system or in the event of a reported building backup.

Register Now for the Mayor's Fall Cleanup, October 26

Mayor Brandon M. Scott, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW), and the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs have announced the upcoming Mayor's Annual Fall Clean-up and Day of Service. Residents, volunteer groups, and community associations are encouraged to register now to participate in the city-wide effort to beautify neighborhoods. The event will run on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mattress and Box Spring Recycling Now Available at Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center



Looking to get rid of an old mattress? Baltimore City residents can now drop off mattresses and box springs for recycling at the Baltimore City Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center. In the coming months, DPW will expand this mattress recycling service to other Residential Drop-Off Centers across the city.
