Baltimore City Department of Public Works Selects Its Employee of the Year

May 23, 2013 (Baltimore, MD) — The Baltimore City Department of Public Works selected its second “Employee of the Year” today at a ceremony held at the War Memorial Building at 101 N. Gay St. Alice Wilhoit was selected from among six finalists. A 30-year employee, Ms. Wilhoit works in the Environmental Services Division, Water Treatment Section at the Montebello facility, which is responsible for converting raw water into drinking water and maintaining water quality standards throughout the entire Baltimore Metropolitan distribution system.

Ms. Wilhoit was recognized as an exceptional employee who has provided a high quality level of office support to her section for more than 30 years. She is the lead for her office team and often completes additional tasks to meet requirements at the facility. Ms. Wilhoit, referred to as the “Den Mother,” keeps the section’s morale at a high level by being supportive of her coworkers. In her free time, she DJs at a variety of senior citizen homes, sings with the DPW/DOT band and singers and spends time with her grandchildren.

DPW established the Employee of the Month program in May 2011 to recognize and encourage high quality work and service to Baltimore city residents by Public Works employees. Every month, an employee is honored from the Bureaus of Solid Waste, Water and Wastewater, and DPW Administration. From those 36 employees, six finalists were nominated by Bureau Heads and the DPW Chief of Staff. An employee committee reviewed the nominations, interviewed the candidates and ranked them. The criteria includes customer service, relationship with co-workers, contribution to the community, etc.

Ms. Wilhoit received three days permission leave, a one night stay at the Hotel Monaco, a gift certificate for two at Fogo De Chao and a gift of two tickets to a sporting event. Gifts were donated and/or paid for by members of DPW’s executive staff.

Other nominees included Paula Bond, a secretary; Crystal Goodson, an operations technician; Michelle Jernigan, a Bobcat operator; Tameka Holness, a word processing operator; and Ray Perales, a systems analyst.

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW)  has announced the release of its Revised Emergency Response Plan (ERP), a reference tool to be used by City personnel during a sanitary sewer overflow or reported building backup emergency. The Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree (MCD) requires DPW to submit a revised Emergency Response Plan to protect the public health and welfare in the event of an unpermitted release, spill, or discharge of pollutants from the sewer collection system or in the event of a reported building backup.

Register Now for the Mayor's Fall Cleanup, October 26

Mayor Brandon M. Scott, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW), and the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs have announced the upcoming Mayor's Annual Fall Clean-up and Day of Service. Residents, volunteer groups, and community associations are encouraged to register now to participate in the city-wide effort to beautify neighborhoods. The event will run on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mattress and Box Spring Recycling Now Available at Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center



Looking to get rid of an old mattress? Baltimore City residents can now drop off mattresses and box springs for recycling at the Baltimore City Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Quarantine Road Landfill Residential Drop-Off Center. In the coming months, DPW will expand this mattress recycling service to other Residential Drop-Off Centers across the city.
